We can make a difference if we just stand up!

What is POTS?

POTS stands for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. A form of dysautonomia, POTS is characterized by dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. It affects blood pressure, heart rate, blood vessel and pupil diameter, peristaltic movements of the digestive tract, and body temperature. The shortage of blood in the brain upon standing can result in dizziness, light-headedness, and possibly fainting. In POTS, the lightheadedness or fainting is also accompanied by a rapid increase in heartbeat of more than 30 beats per minute, or a heart rate that exceeds 120 beats per minute, within 10 minutes of rising.

Symptoms:

The symptoms of POTS include but are not limited to: dizziness, fainting, difficulty thinking and concentrating (brain fog), fatigue, intolerance of exercise, temperature dysregulation, headache, blurry vision, palpitations, chest pains, neuropathy, tremors and nausea.

My life with POTS:

I started experiencing POTS symptoms when I was around 7 years old and wasn’t officially diagnosed until 2015. Though my days used to consist of volleyball, track, school, boarding, and surfing, my diagnosis shook my world and changed my life. Through years of doctors appointments, hospital visits, anxiety, and depression, I learned a lot about myself and found new passions that worked WITH my body. Now being an artist brings me so much peace and happiness- and I’m lucky enough to get to share it with you!
